STAFF/VOLUNTEERS

Camp Mak-A-Dream recruits over 100 volunteers and hires a limited number of paid, seasonal staff each summer. All applicants go through an extensive application and interview process to ensure the safety and care of our campers and participants.

Staff and volunteers

If you are interested in applying for a summer position at Camp Mak-A-Dream, please call the Foundation office at (406) 549-5987 for an application, or download the application from this site (click here). Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

After completing a staff application, selected applicants will be asked to go through either an in-person or a phone interview, based on where the applicant resides. All full-season, paid "core" staff applicants are required to do an in-person interview or create a video interview.

If you are selected to be on staff / volunteer with Camp Mak-A-Dream, the following additional information will be required.

  • Three letters of recommendation

  • Criminal background check release signature (for Kids, Teen and Sibs)

  • Physical examination

  • Copy of applicant's driver's license

  • Copy of applicant's current CPR certification (required for everyone but dream team & program volunteers)

Full-summer paid "core" staff positions:

Assistant directors (2 positions: Residential and Program), cabin leaders

(4 positions) and program specialists (art, nature, music, sports & recreation, ropes course, pool).

Paid "Core" Staff must be able to commit for the season from June 20 through August 20. Core staff members live on campus during all camp sessions and have a limited number of days off between sessions. Benefits include stipend, plus room and board. Salary for Assistant Directors is based on prior experience.

We accept applications all throughout the year, but conduct interviews beginning in the early spring for the coming summer season.

Weekly volunteer staff positions available:
Volunteers are provided with lodging and meals for the entire length of their session and training. This is a 7-9 day commitment depending on the session for which you apply. Please see the "Dates & Applications'' page for a complete schedule and specific dates. All volunteers are required to attend a 24-hour training session the day prior to the start of each session.

  • Cabin Counselors (Kids, Teens and Sibs only)
Volunteers sleep in the cabin, join in the programs, and participate in the camp experience with campers. The ratio for Kids' Camp is 1:2 (counselor to camper). The ratio for Teens and Sibs Camp is 1:3 (counselor to camper).
  • Program Assistant (Kids, Teen and Sibs only)
Volunteers bring experience in a specific program area and work in assisting the Program Staff in providing fun and safe activities for all campers.
  • Concierges (YAC only)
Volunteers sleep in the cabin, join in the programs, and participate in the camp experience with participants. Concierges ensure all participants have everything they need for a safe and fun experience and are available day and night if problems should arise. The ratio for YAC is 1:6 (concierge to participant).
  • Dream Team Members (All Camps)
Volunteers work in the behind-the-scenes running of camp. This includes cleaning the lodge and cabins (including bathrooms and shower rooms), working in the dining room and kitchen. This position is more removed from the daily activities and provides less involvement with the campers; however, you are welcome to join in the activities once Dream Team duties are completed.
  • Nurses and Doctors (All Camps)
Nurses must get a Montana nursing license; arrangements can be made for a temporary permit for out-of-state nurses. (There is a fee for this permit.) If you are interested in volunteering as a Nurse or Doctor please contact the Missoula office at (406) 549-5987. You can also download a Volunteer/Staff application from this web site.

Applications for the above positions are accepted throughout the year and interviews are conducted on a first come, first serve basis beginning in early March. Positions are filled as interviews are conducted, so we encourage applying as early in the year as possible.
